Bridport Jurassic Coast Run 10k 2018
12 August 2018
2018 EVENT RESULTS AVAILABLE
The Bridport Jurassic Coast Run is back in 2018 – and this time both the 10k and the half-marathon will be chip-timed races. Also for the first time, the running event has been certified as a fell race (Grade B) under the rules of the Fell Runners Association (license number 2018-5942). The two tough multi-terrain 10k and half-marathon races will start at 10:30 on Sunday, 12th of August, from the promenade in front of the Windy Corner Café in West Bay (registration starts there 8:45) and lead runners along the Coast path up to the second highest hill on the South Coast of England, Thorncombe Beacon.
The current 10k course was established in 2016 when the race had its debut in West Bay. The half-marathon distance was also first run in 2016, with the loop to Seatown added in 2017. Both races will start with the famous 'Broadchurch' cliff at West Bay in the background, leading runners all the way up to Thorncombe Beacon, then down to Seatown (half-marathon runners only) and back through Downhouse Farm, Eype to West Bay. The half-marathon consists of two loops.
The record for the fastest 10k was set by Nigel Gates in 2016 (46 min. 1 sec.); the fastest time in the half-marathon race was run in the same year by Edward Knudsen (1 hrs. 33 min. 21 sec.) In 2017, Ruth Barnes was the first woman to win the half-marathon distance (01:35:16). Prizes will be given to 1st male and 1st female finisher and 1st male veteran (50 years+) and 1st female veteran in both races.
The races are open for runners of all abilities from the age of 16 (10k) or 17 years (half-marathon).
Since its debut in 2013, the Bridport Jurassic Coast Run with its two races has grown to become both a community event and a recommended race among club runners from all over the Southwest. It has earned lots of praise from participants for its spectacular scenery, friendly marshals and good organisation (and the odd hill). The Bridport Jurassic Coast Run has been organised jointly by local community groups Bridport Runners and Brit Valley Rotary Club since its beginning.
